General:
Spindlestone is a south facing Whin Sill crag which, though broken, has some long routes. Afficionados of Whin Sill climbing may like it here, but sandstone lovers will hate it. Several loose blocks were removed during preparations for the 1979 guide, but more will lurk, waiting for the unwary.
Rock:
Whinstone Quartz Dolerite, Permo-Carboniferous
History:
The routes described here were developed by Ken Smith of The Wammeys club in the early 1980's and accidently misattributed in the NMC guide. A visit by Gordon Thompson at around the same time would probably have yielded some routes had it not been for the nest of hornets which put him in hospital. |
