From Simonside, follow the summit path south east. This goes right over the crag after 800 metres. Alternately from the normal approach to Simonside, a path from the forestry road leads up the side of a burn directly onto the crag.

General:
Old Stell is the collection of buttresses and boulders on the eastern summit of the Simonside plateau, and is the first rock seen on the normal approach to Simonside. It is included in the Simonside section of the bouldering guide and the climbing is all bouldering.
Rock:
Fell Sandstone Carboniferous, Dinantian
The rock is pretty much the same as the that on Simonside North Face, with the same variability in hardness.

Routes:
none
Problems:
There's quite a lot of potential, but the only recorded problem is an obvious sloping arete in the canyon on the south side of the summit.
